At The Julian Way, our work is rooted in spiritual care—the belief that every person deserves space to explore meaning, identity, and belonging within their spiritual life.
For many individuals with disabilities, that space has not always been accessible. Too often, faith communities overlook or misunderstand the lived experience of disability.
That's why our program centers spiritual direction led by disabled practitioners—creating an environment where participants are met with understanding from the very beginning.
Spiritual care at The Julian Way is holistic and relational. It recognizes that spiritual well-being is deeply connected to emotional, physical, and communal life.
Through ongoing support, participants are invited to:
Reflect on their spiritual journey
Process experiences of exclusion or belonging
Explore questions of purpose, identity, and faith
Grow in a sense of dignity and self-direction
A core part of this program is access to one-on-one spiritual direction.
Participants have the opportunity to meet individually with a disabled spiritual director—someone who brings both professional training and lived experience of disability.
This creates a different kind of starting point:
Less explaining, more understanding
Shared awareness of systemic and spiritual barriers
A space where disability is not something to overcome, but something fully welcomed
Spiritual direction sessions offer:
Guided reflection and deep listening
Support in navigating faith and disability
Space for discernment, healing, and growth
Spiritual care doesn't happen in isolation—it happens in community. Participants are invited into ongoing connection with others through:
Online Group Chat
A space for daily or ongoing conversation, encouragement, and mutual support among participants.
Monthly Zoom Gatherings
Regular virtual meetings centered on reflection, discussion, and shared spiritual practice.
Occasional In-Person Gatherings
Accessible, thoughtfully designed opportunities to connect face-to-face, build relationships, and deepen community.
Together, these spaces create a network of peer-based spiritual care, where participants not only receive support—but offer it to one another.
While spiritual care is central, this program also recognizes the realities participants face in daily life.
We provide:
Advocacy support for navigating systems like healthcare, education, and employment
Guidance that integrates practical needs with spiritual well-being
Connection to resources, including financial support through the LIFT Fund
This integration ensures that spiritual direction is not separate from life—but grounded within it.
Individuals with disabilities seeking spiritual care and spiritual direction
People looking for guidance from someone who understands disability from lived experience
Those navigating faith, identity, and belonging
Individuals seeking both one-on-one support and community connection
This program is built on the belief that people with disabilities are not just recipients of care, but leaders, guides, and spiritual voices.
We center:
Dignity
Belonging
Mutual care
Spiritual growth
Leadership from within the disability community
At The Julian Way, spiritual care is not an afterthought—it is foundational.
Through spiritual direction, community connection, and advocacy, we create spaces where you are not only supported, but deeply known and understood.
